Wireless module saves development time and offers excellent performance for short range communication

Ideal for customers looking for a quick and easy way to integrate powerful wireless functionality at low cost, Shortlink has introduced a transceiver module for use in the standard ISM/SRD band of 868MHz. The SL4300-Cx features excellent performance and functionality at low cost, providing a good fit with many applications. As a ready made module with CE marking, the transceiver offers risk free, quick time to market and low development costs.

The module’s embedded protocol simplifies data exchange and configuration for radio communication, and helps ensure that the configured module complies with radio regulations. The module is certified for license-free operation under European regulations.

The transceiver’s small form factor of just 12.7x25.4x3.2mm enables slim and compact product design. Exhibiting versatility, the SL4300-C can be supplied with an internal chip antenna, or for use with an external antenna.

The four channel SL4300-C offers a maximum data rate of 38.4kbps and a versatile maximum output power of 10dBm. The part’s receiver class (EN 300 220-1) is ‘2’, and its transmitter power class is ‘8’. When used in a line of sight environment a range of 1 to 2km can be achieved.

A low-power discrete RF design ensures long battery life in portable products. The transceiver operates from a supply of 2.2 to 3.6V, and current consumption in sleep mode is an incredibly low 1uA. A digital signal strength indicator is included, and the module is frequency and temperature calibrated.

The most important application areas for the product are telemetry, sensor networks, remote control, cable replacement, home and building automation. Other applications include automatic meter reading, consumer electronics, barcode scanners, meshnet, alarm and security systems, two-way remote key entry, and industrial monitoring and control.

Factors driving demand for this type of product are centred mainly on the removal or avoidance of cable as an interconnection. It is often possible to save expensive, time consuming work associated with cable installations. Wireless also enables unhindered movement - with all the associated benefits. Now in full production, Shortlink carries stocks of the SL4300-C, and product pricing is available on request from Shortlink. Larger volumes are quoted for on a case by case basis.
